We are looking for an experienced Microbiologist with leadership experience to join our mission in St. Louis, Missouri. As the Group Leader, Microbiology, you will lead a team of scientific professionals within Research and Development to develop and deliver a technical roadmap that will directly contribute to the continued success of STERIS' surface cleaners and disinfectants. Prior experience in an industrial environment is critical to the success of this role. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with multiple teams and regularly work in the micro lab as the subject matter expert for the team. You will also have responsibility for guiding the team, delegating work, mentoring, training, etc.

• Provides current product support to marketing and sales teams, technical expertise in assisting with Customer issues and on Customer sites, and reviews sales and marketing documents for technical accuracy.
• Demonstrates technical expertise in STERIS scientific technologies as they relate to Microbiology.
• Leads a team of scientists, providing technical input and leadership to the team.
• Responsible for management, design, development and delivery of targets of one or more Research and Development projects including providing leadership and direction to the project team.
• Takes ownership of all assigned projects/tasks from initiation to completion including the performance of personnel in their group.
• Independently performs analyses and resolves complex issues using critical thinking skills, problem solving techniques, and scientific expertise
• Assurance of efficient laboratory operation through acquisition and inventory control of consumables (lab supplies & chemicals).
• Develop Microbiological methods.
• Maintains knowledge of FDA and EPA and European requirements for Microbiological Efficacy Testing.
• Responsible for the communication of results/conclusions/ recommendations to senior management
• Participates in refining current techniques, defining new techniques, troubleshooting problems and documenting processes, procedures and results.
• Participates on cross functional project teams and establishes good working relationships within STERIS Corporation.
• Serves as contact point for outside vendors & consultants.
• Recognizes, communicates and provides interpretation of unexpected results.
• Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Biology or related major required.
• 10+ years of related microbiology laboratory experience required.
• Experience within an industrial environment required.
• Lead and/or Supervisory experience required. Experience within a Research and Development team highly preferred
• Demonstrated experience leading successfully in a team environment.
• Experience in project leadership.
• Practical working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
• Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience maintaining knowledge of current literature.
• Some travel may be required.
