Position Summary
The Database Administrator Internship provides the ability of the resource filling this role to install, configure, and support multiple databases in an enterprise environment. The Intern will also learn and operate different backup methodologies, recovery scenarios, tune for better performance, create/modify shell scripts, and set up monitoring for multiple key performance indicators. This position is an entry-level position on the enterprise team responsible for managing and delivering database services to internal Steris customers.
This internship offers practical work experience and an introduction to technology platforms such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL, and Snowflake databases and Oracle EBS, Siebel, Syteline, Cognos, PTC Windchill, and Tableau applications. This internship will involve challenging opportunities, include participation on project teams delivering capabilities that are critical to the business, and provide the Intern with the ability to build skills interacting with internal staff and across IT disciplines. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the information technologies field, while working for a company in a leadership position in the medical devices industry.
Duties
- Perform Installation and configuration of various database technologies
- Explore and create documents to detail development, testing and production changes of database objects
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and evaluate reported database problems
- Perform database administration tasks associated with assigned development activities
- Work with OS support personnel to provide assistance in managing and maintaining database backups
- Assist with performing database and application upgrades as required to meet corporate objectives
Required Experience
- Currently enrolled in Undergraduate/Graduate college with a major in Computer Science or another technical field
- Junior or Senior status with GPA 3.0 or above
- Currently enrolled in or have completed courses in databases, programming, SQL
- Strong learning ability
- Analytical
- Team-oriented
- Detail-oriented
- Must have ability to work independently as needed.
- Ability to support other database management team members and other IT team staff on various projects as needed.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
