The Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular (IRC) Coder assigns accurate and complete ICD-10-CM codes and CPT codes or charges and ensures they are supported by medical record documentation for inpatient and outpatient records. Ensure the accurate and complete coding of accounts for Interventional Radiology, Cardiovascular and Peripheral Vascular medical records. Codes records in line with productivity standards and takes ownership of specialized area of charging and coding related to Interventional Radiology and Cardio/Peripheral Vascular clinical areas including validation.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintains established standards for coding accuracy.
- Maintains established standards for Charge Capture Accuracy.
- Monitors unposted charge logs to ensure timely charge posting occurs when documentation is present and ready for data submission.
- Assures accurate and complete assignment of CPT codes and modifiers that are supported by medical record documentation for outpatient records.
- Maintains established standards for expected productivity percentage.
- Acts as liaison between clinical area and Coding operations to ensure revenue integrity is achieved.
- Supports additional projects and duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements
Education
High School or GED
Completion of AHIMA or AAPC-approved coding or health information technology program
Experience
4 years recent coding or auditing experience in an acute care hospital.
Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC) status or eligibility is required.
Must obtain CIRCC designation within six months of employment if not certified at time of hire.
Certification
Obtain CIRCC (Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder) within first six months of employment.
Skills
- Ability to charge and code interventional radiology and cardiology procedures as well as assign diagnosis codes inclusive of actual coding or auditing chart, complex medical terminology, normal and variant anatomy and knowledge of interventional procedures and related equipment.
- Computer literacy to include use of MS-Office.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working closely with physicians and allied health professionals.
